Project Description

Using USAID’s Democracy and Governance (DG) Assessment Framework, Democracy International conducted a broad, strategic assessment of democracy and governance opportunities for USAID in Burundi. The team found that the concentration of power in the executive and the ruling party, poor accountability, and a weak rule of law were the primary DG challenges facing Burundi. It recommended a cross-institutional strategy to improve competition and government capacity through a focus on agricultural policy.
