Project Description

In 2012, with funding from the U.S. Department of State’s Middle East Partnership Initiative (MEPI), Democracy International began a three-year partnership with organizations in the region to develop, test, and support the adoption of new approaches to domestic election monitoring. DI funded efforts that trained and accredited 1,215 Tunisians from all 27 electoral jurisdictions to observe the 2014 presidential and parliamentary elections; developed the FW Network, a web-based platform to bring together election experts, civic activists, academics, and citizens from across the region; and partnered with the Lebanese Association for Democratic Elections (LADE) and Tunisian watchdog group the Mourakiboun to eliminate barriers to political participation by facilitating a more efficient candidate and observer registration process and using social media to make polling data more easily accessible.
